We are looking for a Principal Consultant to join our Cost Consultancy team based in the South of England. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team, who are working on sharing innovative solutions.

This position sits within the Consultancy side of our business who work in partnership with the defence sector, national government bodies, international institutions and global prime contractors on enterprise transformation, feasibility analysis, systems engineering, programme delivery and support.

The Principal Cost Consultant, will be focussed on the maritime domain for a framework within the defence sector. Within this role, you will be acting as the account lead for this client, overseeing the cost modelling for all the delivery work provided by our consultants, and looking at how we gain further business on this framework.

The role will provide domain knowledge and cost expertise to generate the evidence to make better decisions, in support of our customers within the defence and space sectors. In particular, we:

  • Work with customers and stakeholders to improve policy, strategy, management, planning and assessments;
  • Provide the evidence to support stakeholder decisions; and
  • Undertake research to support new approaches, the adoption of mature approaches in a different context, and the utilisation and management of capability and technologies.

What we’re looking for?

As the Principal Cost Consultant you will be responsible for:

  • Vision and Strategy: Assisting in setting the vision and strategy for Cost Consultancy activities in collaboration with the other practices aligned with customer aspirations and the wider tpgroup Consulting vision and strategy.
  • Team Leadership: Supporting the development of a growing capability area, motivating and coaching of team members. Leading team meetings and SME to share knowledge, co-ordinate activities and pursue opportunities.
  • Capability Development: Aligning service offerings to customer demand, and collaborating with other practice leads to ensure services are coherent across the business.
  • Training and Development:  Staying at the forefront of profession, as the role of an environmental practitioner is ever evolving we encourage career development through attendance to conferences, steering committees and tailored training and development as and when required. 
  • Business Development. Supporting Account Leads by writing technical approaches within bids and presenting to prospective customers. Collaborating with Account Leads to identify need for new capability across all our customers
  • Technical Assurance: Working on projects, providing technical guidance and reviews to ensure project deliverables are of a high quality and meet customers’ expectations.
  • Client Demand: Working with government, industry and academia you will support the management of critical infrastructure, understand product environmental impacts, circular economy models and wider social and economic considerations.

You will be expected to travel to the client’s sites on a regular basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Consultant or someone looking make the next step in their career.

Why you?

The right applicant for this role will be an experienced Cost Consultant who has:

  • A consultancy or client side background within a cost analysis and modelling role.
  • Proven cost estimating and modelling capabilities, ideally with CCEA and APMP qualifications.
  • Experience in managing client relationships, ideally you will have worked in, or with clients, in the defence and maritime domains.
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, as you will be the main point of contact for this framework.

  • Candidates will also need to either hold a current SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon starting their employment with the company.
  • T0 gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
