Celebrating #PurpleLightup Day

December 3rd marks #PURPLELIGHTUP – the global movement that highlights the economic importance of the 386 million disabled employees around the world.

This movement was initiated in 2017 and continues to be led by PurpleSpace to help celebrate the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) – this is held annually on 3rd December.

Here at tpgroup  the event, we annually support this important event – you’ll notice that our website accent colour has changed to purple for the day – with #PURPLELIGHTUP focused social media posts.

Our people are engaged across the business to both celebrate this day and to raise awareness of the programme’s importance.

tpgroup is part of the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme which encourages employers to think differently about disabilities and to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.

Signing up as a disability confident organisation in 2019, tpgroup made 5 commitments:

  1. Ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  2. Communicating and promoting vacancies through a range of channels.
  3. Offering interviews to disabled people
  4. Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required
  5. Supporting existing employees who acquire a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work.

Said Richard Elliott, Group HR Director: “Disabled people bring a wealth of skills and experience, and we should be providing opportunities and an environment to enable them to unlock it.”

Around 20% of the UK population are classed as disabled, and organisations who don’t engage are missing out on a huge pool of potential talent.”
