We deliver domain leading Systems Engineering knowledge, skills and experience to support clients or take full responsibility for the delivery of outcomes. Our knowledge, skills and experience provide leadership and resource support – enabling our customers to make more timely and informed decisions.

Our services are delivered in accordance with Industry and Government best practice, including: ISO15288, ITIL, Six Sigma, TOGAF, Government Digital Service Standard.

Engineering planning & delivery

  • Provides engineering leadership to integrate, manage and deliver activities and products using assigned resources
  • Engineering Governance through the CADMID cycle and Vee model using Guidance for Engineering Activity and Review (GEAR)
  • Generation and review of Engineering Management plans
  • Implement reviews across the system/service lifecycle to assess progress and the quality of output

Requirements engineering

  • SMART requirements definition, maintenance and management across the system/service lifecycle
  • Requirements elicited through full stakeholder engagement and a combination of: use-case/business process analysis, literature review, workshops, one-to-one interviews
  • Requirements fully justified and traceable, enabling rapid requirement trade impact assessment
  • Requirements recorded using appropriate tools such as DOORS and Dimensions RM

Architecture

  • Generate, analyse and support the selection of business, functional and physical architecture options
  • Describing target (‘to-be’) states and associated transition states (from ‘as-is’)
  • Architectures that encompass people, processes, information and technology, and their relationships to one another and the external environment

Innovation & technology management

  • Planning, including TRL and SRL assessment, forecasting and road mapping
  • Planning and delivery of Concept Demonstrators to evaluate potential uses and implications of new technology in support of current and emerging operational concepts
  • Planning and delivery of Technology Demonstrators to evaluate and accelerate the maturity of new technology

Test, evaluation & acceptance

  • Planning, including TRL and SRL assessment, forecasting and road mapping
  • Planning and delivery of Concept Demonstrators to evaluate potential uses and implications of new technology in support of current and emerging operational concepts
  • Planning and delivery of Technology Demonstrators to evaluate and accelerate the maturity of new technology

Case studies

tpgroup modelling engineers have also developed a SK6 Modelling and Simulation strategy, which involves defining the capability requirements and enablers in terms of people, processes and tools, to deliver the SKYNET Modelling and Simulation capability through life.
The Submarine Delivery Agency needed support to mature their Requirements Co-ordination Document (RCD) for SSNAUKUS which was in its early stages of development and without higher level requirements and documentation to which to trace. The tpgroup team joined forces with the BAE requirements team and set about reviewing and updating the RCD immediately identifying fundamental gaps in the requirement set, including the lack of capability/User requirement to derive the remaining layers of requirement decomposition. The first phase of work was to improve the current requirement, the second was to identify gaps and begin to elicit requirements in key missing areas.
As Systems Engineering specialists, with a pedigree in working within complex defence programmes, as well as developing the Guide to Engineering Activities and Reviews (GEAR) framework for the MOD, tpgroup initiated an intensive GEAR review of the project, scrutinising its readiness, its personnel, its approach, its planning, its existing information and inherent levels of engineering process and knowledge. tpgroup also reviewed secondary stakeholders and customers/sponsors to ascertain user needs were coherent and aligned with the project whilst recognising external risks and dependencies.
