Defence veteran joins TP Group’s senior team

Chris Cullis, an experienced defence industry consultant and former Royal Marine, has been appointed to the newly created role of Client Director at TP Group. He’s responsible for the empowerment of delivery team leaders, so they can offer maximum value to key customers including Ministry of Defence (MOD) departments.

A deep-rooted understanding of defence sector needs

With his depth and breadth of experience in defence and in industry, Chris brings valuable insights and perspectives to enhance TP Group’s services. He encourages the team to ‘read behind the requirements’ to ensure projects deliver meaningful benefits and support the ongoing evolution of the defence sector.

“Part of my job is to help TP Group’s delivery team understand the wider context and implications of our work,” Chris explains. “We provide capabilities that make a real and positive difference to our clients. Having spent 30 years in uniform, I have a great deal of empathy for people doing dangerous jobs in complex environments. They are highly skilled and expertly trained, but their success depends upon the quality of the assets they’re provided with. It’s easy to lose sight of this when you’re working in an office-based defence consultancy role, but it must always be front of mind.”

Following his career in the Royal Marines, Chris spent more than a decade in a senior role for a leading engineering consultancy that serves the defence industry. He’s leveraging this experience to augment existing practices at TP Group, in alignment with customers’ transformation goals. As well as enhancing and extending our small to medium enterprise (SME) relationships, he will engage with industry primes, defence and security organisations and trade associations.

“As a Science Group company, TP Group is uniquely placed to interface between the defence sector and non-traditional suppliers. We have a strong track record and well-established contacts in MOD and industry. This allows us to form specialist industry clusters with the niche skills and fresh thinking that is so critical to modern defence. It’s about tapping into new seams of expertise from SMEs that may struggle to bring their skills to support MOD.”

The new Client Director role was created to help further TP Group’s mission to provide science and technology consultancy expertise via integrated services. Blending expert insights from the defence sector and wider industry adds value to customers in defence, aerospace, and government. This is especially important as these sectors embrace more strategic, holistic approaches to ensure effective responses to threats and opportunities in the modern age.

As Chris explains: “I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences in uniform and in consultancy with the great team at TP Group. Together, we have the power to make a material difference to our customers’ performance.”
